# Three theses defended in Applied Physics

Congratulations to three students from the Laboratory of Systems Biology who defended their master's theses in Applied Physics on 5 June.

Marten Pärg defended *Implementing 3D Imaging in Single Molecule Localization Microscopy with Astigmatism*. His work implemented three-dimensional super-resolution imaging by using astigmatism to encode molecular depth in fluorescence microscopy.

Otto Gustavson defended *Studies of diffusion in cardiac muscle cells*. His research used fluorescence correlation spectroscopy and raster image correlation spectroscopy to investigate diffusion in cardiomyocytes.

Maike Mona Širinov defended *Calcium activation in cardiac muscle: experimental and modelling studies*. Her work combined experiments and mathematical modelling to study calcium activation in heart muscle.

We congratulate Marten, Otto, and Maike Mona, and wish them every success in their future work.
